A prize of R$5,000.00 (five thousand reais) for a brazilian short film subscribed and selected for one of the Festival programs, up to 15 minutes, to be voted by a jury chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Festival. The Itamaraty Prize for Brazilian Cinema was introduced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006, with the aim of promoting national cinema through cash prizes for several categories, including Best Short Film. Since 2013, in association with the São Paulo International Short Films Festival, a new prize has been created especially for the format, which this year reaches its fourth edition.
- Breakthrough Award
The Breakthrough Award aims to encourage the young audiovisual production talents in their next production, from recording to finishing an up to 15 minutes short film. To make this possible, the Festival establishes partnerships with companies in the field, which indicate especialized journalists to be part of the juri and offer the required resources for the new project.Eligible for the Breakthrough Award are directors of Brazilian films produced in audiovisual courses exhibited on Brazilian Showcase, Sao Paulo Panorama and Student’s Showcase. The selection process also considers a 15-page script sent in by the filmmakers, explaining the idea of their next project. The film produced with the resources provided by this Award is comitted to make its premiere on 29th Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival.
