Evaluation
In the year of 2006 an evaluation research concerning the Kinoforum Workshops activities was made to measure its impact on the youth who have been through these teachings. The results, furthermore the video production, were important because they contributed with our early continuous evaluation of the project. The research was held by the sociologists Adriana Campos and Renata Gentile.
It was possible to realize that, in fact, the workshops reached its target audience: youth from the Sao Paulo metropolitan area that is in need of public cultural equipment and has little or no access to the Brazilian cultural productions.
Another interesting data relates the expectation students have when enrolling: the possibility of accessing and learning about the audiovisual as a whole is the major one. Amongst other imperative reasons, there is the interest on multiplying this knowledge in order to consciousness-raising and democratization, there is, the possibility of social development is the major reason. This is an interesting data for it corresponds to the goals of the project and at the same moment time it encourages the development of such activities. Many youngsters enroll with the intention of to beginning to work on the field. Forming technicians is not one of the project’s goals and it is definitely not a direct consequence of taking part on the Workshops, even though, since the beginning of the workshops, many students began working in the audiovisual field because of the experience obtained in the workshops. Such thing does not depend on the project, a great part of the students (84%) who answered to the research said to have had their expectations attended.
Concerning the students’ relation with the audiovisual, it is known that after the workshops the students are able to distinguish the audiovisual as a language and a means of popular expression, looking beyond the common sense conception that it is a simple merchandising, entertainment or even the vague definition of culture. Reports indicate the crystallization of a critical audience instead of a passive one. Unfortunately, the access to the cultural equipments, located mainly downtown, is not growing heavily as we would like to, but it is growing considerably and we highly regard that as extremely important.
Summarizing this short report briefing, an item of great importance for both students and partner institutions, the need to keep on with the audiovisual activities for the youngsters and in the communities where the workshops took place. This problem was crystal clear even before the report was made and it is a continuous worry of the Kinoforum staff. Thus we support the independent audiovisual groups who have spontaneously bred after the workshops. We support the creation of new groups and began the pilot project Community Cinema in the year 2007, one of the continuity activities that can be explored after the workshops.
