In the community

The Kinoforum Workshop project made our contact to many diverse communities possible. It allowed us to keep in touch with young people interested in continuing to democratize the audiovisual languages in their communities. The Community Cinema project, which pilot was created in 2007, is part of this partnership proposal and also the independent groups who bloomed after the workshops.

Community Cinema

The Kinoforum Workshop began a pilot project of exhibiting cinema in less privileged communities. The initiative foresees a technical and theoretical capability empowerment of youngsters who are connected to any of the exhibition places and the staff is made by educators and young people, including former workshops’ students.

The young people from the communities are in charge of production, programming and putting together the projection equipment, if necessary. The program is made mainly of Brazilian pictures, videos produced by the Kinoforum Workshops and the KinoOikos Library (www.kinooikos.com). It contains films made by young people coming from areas of need in Brazil or from social projects which use the video as a means of social inclusion.

In order to organize these exhibitions we made a Programming and Exhibition Workshop starting a cycle of theoretical and practical development for whoever is interested and from there the groups can become independent multipliers. In the workshop the students learnt the manipulate projection equipment, produce and program a session and also study hoe to write project to enable the exhibitions.
